Richard N. Toews

Squamish Lawyer - Richard ToewsRichard N. (Rick) Toews was called to the bar in 1985 and practiced in downtown Vancouver for 8 years before moving his residence from Kitsilano to Squamish with his wife in 1993 to raise their three children "out of the city". He commuted daily to Vancouver for the next 5 years and then established a satellite office in Squamish, expecting to develop a one to two day per week practice in Squamish. The Squamish practice grew quickly, and in 2001, after practicing primarily in downtown Vancouver for 16 years, Mr. Toews changed the focus of his practice to Squamish and made the Vancouver office his satellite office. The Squamish practice has flourished since then, with most new clients being from the Sea to Sky Corridor. The Vancouver office, located on West Georgia Street, is now the satellite office for the firm and continues to be used to service new and existing clients in the Lower Mainland.

For the first ten years of his career, Mr. Toews practiced primarily as a civil litigator, with a broad practice area, including family law, personal injury, corporate/commercial, construction and real estate litigation, and wrongful dismissal claims.  Since the mid 1990’s Mr. Toews has also carried on a solicitor’s practice, including corporate/commercial work, conveyancing, and wills and estates.

Mr. Toews has represented personal and corporate clients in Provincial Court, Supreme Court and the British Columbia Court of Appeal.  Mr. Toews' clients benefit from his broad range of skills and experience, as he is able to draw on solutions and remedies from a number of areas of law.

A strong family man, Mr. Toews has no regrets whatsoever regarding moving his residence from Vancouver to Squamish and later changing the focus of his practice from Vancouver to the Sea to Sky Corridor. The Sea to Sky Corridor is a great place to raise a family, with incredible outdoor recreational opportunities at its doorstep. Mr. Toews looks forward to continuing to provide legal services for existing residents and businesses in the Corridor, as well as new residents and businesses who are discovering that Squamish is in fact an ideal place to live, work and play, and raise children.

Mr. Toews is an avid golfer. He and his family also enjoy many of the other outdoor activities that the Sea to Sky Corridor has to offer, including hiking, mountain biking and skiing.
